The first stamp on my passport!

All of us have this list of things that we would like to do, some  have been there for as long as you can remember, some just got added along the way.Visiting places outside India has always been one of the things I have always wanted to do, but I wanted to travel on work. The idea of getting to explore places while on work (read sponsored trips!) was and is so exciting. I waited hoping that would happen, but it never did. So I finally gave in to everyone's advice of just going on a holiday by myself  especially since my parents also thought I should go (I thought they might be more keen that I get more serious on the groom hunt rather than go exploring places). So well there I was all excited about visiting Yamuna in Leeds and Renu in Berlin. These are the two people who have been asking me to visit them since the 2 of them were in Leeds.I got started on the visa a little late, as I was waiting to get all the documents in order for both applications. I finally went ahead and applied for the German Visa first. I intitially planned to go to Leeds first and then to Berlin, but since the later dates were more suitable for Yamuna, I changed the plan. The German Visa application requires you to have an extensive documentation in place, but this was quite easy to do as they detail everything in their brochure. the whole process was smooth. I submitted my application in a VFS office in bangalore and then a meeting was scheduled in the German consulate in Chennai. By the end of the day, I collected my passport from the VFS office and there was the Schengen Visa! I was thrilled to see it, they had of course given me the visa for the specific period that I had booked the tickets for. So it was valid for just 10 days. At that time it didn't really matter because I planned to be in Germany only for a week.
The next thing to do was get the UK Visa. This I thought would be much simpler as I could directly apply in Bangalore and would involve only half a day's work. Well, the initial process was convenient, I booked an appointment and went there for the application submission. The VFS staff checked my documents and asked for some more documents, after some scrambling I managed to give them all the possible documents or rather the ones that I thought would ensure a visa approval. After a wait of 15 days, I found out that  I was not granted a visa as they were not convinced of the genuineness of  my friend's documents because they were photocopies. I was shocked  and then furious. When all the rage and frustration had subsided, which took some time and a lot of venting, I decided I didn't have enough time to re-apply and so rescheduled to visit only Germany.Again, because of the original plan and the 10 day visa, I couldn't extend my stay in Germany either. So the final plan was to leave on Sep 1st  morning to Germany and return on the 10th morning.
Then began the shopping and preparing for the travel, I freaked out on the fun shopping but thanks to my friends also did some sensible shopping.I definitely think I would have tried to jump out of the plane if I didn't have that travel pillow!By 31st night I was all set to fly.The journey began on a Vayu Vajra (Airport shuttle). It was almost a 2 hr ride to the airport during which I made many calls and also checked my visa , tickets and the date on my phone about 50 times to make sure that they all matched.I  reached the airport 3 hours before the flight and so was through security and immigration in no time. For me time flies in the airport, its one of my favouritest places because I love watching people and the airport gives you an opportunity to just sit and watch so many different people and of course there were the sparrows. Its as if all the sparrows in Bangalore live in the airport and they do behave as if its their territory!
On boarding the flight I was in for a shock.I had expected a little more spacious seating for a long haul flight but what I got was worse than our very own Air Deccan seating and all the seats were occupied! Luckily I was too sleepy and beat to be bogged down by that and slept for a good 7 hours before I got up and discovered that my neighbors were generally flirting  and hitting on each other.Thankfully I had the in-flight music and headphones to 'discover'! We reached Frankfurt on time and as soon as we landed I started 'exploring' the airport. I went in a circle twice before finally figuring how to get to the other terminal. For those who don't know me this is my signature style, I have never been able to get from point A to point B without going in a circle at least once. But this time I had an excuse, it was Frankfurt airport!!So then I wandered through the airport for nearly an hour and identified the gate from which I was to board my flight to Berlin in 7 hours. This done I decided to venture out.I spotted a travel desk which had a Frankfurt City tour of 3 hours scheduled in the next 15 minutes.I signed up for it and waited with a group of Chinese guys for our pickup.Unfortunately when the tour guide came to pick us up some of the  guys had wandered off, but the tour guide would have none of it and said he couldn't wait for them. So he took me and another lady who was to be dropped off at the train station and drove off in a mini van. Some very disturbing thoughts were beginning to form in my mind but the minute we drove out of the airport they were replaced by sheer awe.More on Frankfurt in the next post.Next Stop, Berlin.Meeting Renu & hanging out with her had been what I was looking forward to, but the city itself was a pleasant surprise and the 4 days I spent there were the highlight of my trip. And then was the weekend visit to Rome that Renu had planned out.Aah Rome!
Before I knew it, it was time to head back. The flight back was more comfortable and I had this old Indian couple sitting next to me.It was entertaining to watch them try wine after wine and then Beer. It was almost as if there was a competition. So with all this entertainment I hardly felt the 9 hours go by.I reached Bangalore at 1 in the morning and decided to wait for the shuttle service to get home. That was a wait of 6 hours in the airport, 3 of which I spent outside thanks to the poor information service at the airport. Of the journey back home from Berlin, the distance between the airport and home seemed the longest!

Everything about this song is soo much fun.The Hippo, the voice and the music. Adds the spring to your step even if you were trudging along till then.

Ignore the lyrics or listen to it if u will and let me know what it means. But  this song gets me going every time. Its so  full of life and fun.
Ennai konjam maatri:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggre2X8Uo3k
No points for guessing why I love this song. But I will go on nevertheless ;-)
Ahh Surya!! Sigh Sigh... Well he looks absolutely stunning, his best ever till date I think. The look, the smile peeping from the corners of his mouth, threatening to brighten everything, and the eyes...sigh sigh. I guess I have said enough Oh yes I love the way he shifts gears!!! Only place I frowned was when he tossed that pepsi can out on the road, will overlook that because everything else is so distracting.Overall a beautifully shot song, makes me forget myself!!!
